Frozen Spring

Miriam's Outfit: Buckle Brogues - Office, Camel Coat - Topshop, Dress - Zara, Gloves - Topshop, Scarf - Miriam's amazing mum knitted it!, Chambray - Forever 21, Beanie - H&M, Bag - Promod

Siobhan's Outfit: Sweater - Forever 21, Skinnies - Forever 21, Boots - Urban Outfitters, Beanie - Stolen from fiance, Coat - Tokyo, Japan, Scarf - Anne Taylor

Miriam came to visit last weekend and we were hoping for a beautiful Spring day (you know with it being the end of March) but lo and behold we were greeted by dainty snowflakes. You know the kind of dainty snowflakes that numb your ears and eyebrows and make your makeup melt off. But there is always a silver lining, since it made a very pretty background for our pictures. It snowed the entire weekend, which also made a great excuse to cozy up inside and paint our nails.

We experimented with Miriam's Nails Inc Bling it On Rocks kit (highly recommended!) and while it created a successful manicure, I accidentally (and hilariously) glitter-bombed my crotch. I had the eery feeling that my butter fingers would strike and I'm still finding glitter in the apartment, but it was worth it for the awesome nail art effect. Pictures of nail-art manicures coming up soon!

“Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!”

Finding the modern world impossibly vulgar, we yearned to return to the past and Wilton's Music Hall provided the perfect refuge. Jazz bar, restaurant, theatre, Wilton's is the world's oldest surviving Grand Music Hall  and is currently showing a production of The Great Gatsby. With a lovely group of friends in tow (including The RF official Ken Doll) we donned our drop waist dresses, affixed ornaments to our heads, slicked on red lipstick and headed back in time for an evening of wonderful entertainment.

By end of the night we had, not quite, mastered the Charleston.

Siobhan's Outfit: Dress - Urban Outfitters, Pearls - New Look, Headband - World Market,
Shoes - Zara, Bag - Topshop
Miriam's Outfit: Dress - Reiss, Fur - vintage, Headband - Mikey, Clutch - vintage,  Bracelet- Past Times

R.F's resident Ken Doll, Anou, wore a Ben Sherman Pocket Square and a smacker courtesy of NYX jumbo lip pencil in Plush Red.

Made in Shoreditch Fashion Show 2013

We at Remotely Fashion are currently buzzing with excitement over Made in Shoreditch Magazine's upcoming Fashion Show for 2013. Ten of East London's hottest up-and-coming independent designers will be showcasing their designs and will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges (including your high school crush from The O.C., Mischa Barton!) on April 27th, 2013. What makes this show so unique is that the selected designers were chosen all through social media. The power of a click is very mighty nowadays and it's great that it's so easy to support local independent designers through a medium that we all use everyday.

Our top 4 favorite designers are Yasmin Ross, Make & Believe, Lily Stodel and Jimmy Herrtage. But all the finalists are incredibly talented. We wish all the designers the best of luck and can't wait to see their looks on the runway. Made in Shoreditch Magazine will be releasing a limited number of tickets for the event, so keep your eyes peeled on their website for more details.

Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses

With a burgeoning collection of obnoxious sunglasses and fake specs between us, we were thrilled to receive an email from Kaki Read, a fashion coordinator at Warby Parker, suggesting that we collaborate on a post together. Disproving the old adage, “boys don’t make passes in girls that wear glasses”, Warby Parker vintage inspired frames are super stylish. What’s more they even give you a warm glow inside, as for every pair of glasses sold, another pair is distributed to someone in need – helping the less fortunate has never been so appealing. Below, Kaki shares her tips with us on how to look stylish at work and during the weekend. Based on her tips, we have compiled some ensembles and paired them with our favourite Warby Parker frames.
"When going on a day trip, looking the part of a tourist is half the fun. This doesn't mean that one should dress in a souvenir t-shirt and cargo shorts, like so many unfashionable tourists do [Circle of trust confessional; we are actually really rather partial to a souvenir t-shirt! - RF]. Dressing up a bit to celebrate a day free from work and life's other obligations sets the tone for the adventure. If the weather is warm, a high-low dress is a great look for a giving off an air of being on vacation, albeit a short one. High-low dresses are short in front and taper down to longer lengths in back. Many are made out of flowing fabrics like chiffon, which cause their hemlines to flare out whenever their wearers walk more than a few steps, creating a glamorous effect. This glamour can be increased by also wearing over-sized sunglasses. Sunglasses by Warby Parker add retro allure to the contemporary style of a high-low dress and a pair of wedge or high-heeled sandals can complete this ensemble.”

Clutch Bag - Zara, Chunky Sandals - Topshop, Leaf Bracelet - Tatty Divine, Chambray - H&M,  Crochet Detailed Dress - Nasty Gal

The Jasper Violet Magnolia Sunglasses are particularly lovely!
“Dressing stylishly for work requires careful consideration. You have to find a careful balance between sharp style and modest maturity if you want to inject some edge into your office wardrobe without losing the respect of your peers. An easy way to overcome this obstacle is to embrace androgyny. A crisp, fitted blouse makes a great impression, especially when worn with tailored slacks…A short blazer is an edgier alternative to a sweater vest, especially when wearing eyeglasses like Warby Parker's frames.”

Remotely Fashion has officially entered the twittersphere. Although, Miriam and I are proficient in most other forms of social media, twitter is a new thing for both of us. We will try our best to keep you entertained. Oh, and here is a picture of one of favorite style icons, Lana Del Rey, rocking some our favorite early Spring trends: crochet shorts, cozy sweaters, hair braids and floral headwear. And all the while holding a very twitter-like bird -- um, this is what we call kismet. Speaking of Spring, you may have noticed some Spring cleaning around the whole blog. We hope you like the new design.

Hallo Spaceboy

Hallo Spaceboy
V&A's, Ziggy Stardust Silk Shawl / Nasty Gal, Space Unicorn Leggings / Barb and Bear, Bowie Ring / Monki, Ina Cap / Monki, Eyeball Bibi Patterned Tights / Urban Outfitters, Oxford Shoes / Monki, Alien Lizard Skin Sam Case / Zara, Neon Crystal Box Clutch / Nasty Gal, Dark Crystal Ring / Tatty Devine, Radiance Ultra Necklace / Topshop, Galaxy Nail Wraps

What with the excitement building for the V&A’s impending retrospective and his new song whirring around our brains, it would seem almost churlish not to spare a moment and marvel at the wonder that is David Bowie.  The video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” is of course outrageously beautiful and we would do unspeakable things for the pink coat that Tilda Swinton glides around the supermarket in. But, faithful to the end, our hearts still belong to Ziggy Stardust and with that in mind here is our selection of pieces that are out of this world.

Touch the Sky

(Sky Ferreira on the cover of S Moda March 2013)

A fashion inspiration that has been on my radar for many moons is Sky Ferreria. It all started with a bout of tumblr-induced hair jealousy in her long, wavy, mermaid hair days. Then, I got hooked on her music -- it's sometimes teenaged Johnny Cash and other times a heartbeat-quickening pop beat. After seeing her music videos, I was even more drawn in because of her utter-abandon grunge style and avante garde lipstick application (see 'Sad Dream' and 'Red Lips' respectively). Basically, she almost makes me want to return my teenaged days and bleach my hair into oblivion. Almost. Oh wait, I already did that.

Listen to the beats and enjoy! Kthxbye! xoxo

Get FIT @ NYC

March 4th was my bff Julia's birthday and as kismet (or persuasion) would have it, I was back in the US to celebrate. Julia and I ventured up north to the city that never sleeps and the other key player in our bff trio, Liz, was our gracious host. The three of us first visited the Fashion Institute of Technology's museum where the Shoe Obsession and Fashion & Technology exhbitions were on display. It was hard not to drool at the designer shoe-candy and cringe at some of the towering heel heights. And by far, the most fascinating display was the clothing made purely of harvested sheets of bacteria (a bit of shudder-inducing Buffalo Bill moment). Makes you wonder what fashion will be like 50 years from now... I'm still hoping that will look like some sort of holographic Jetsons and Marie Antoinette mash-up.

(3D printed plastic dress from Fashion & Technology; Fetish Ballerine by Christian Louboutin)

(Sweater, Collared Shirt, Vegan leather skirt - Forever 21; Coat - Tokyo; Loafers - Steve Madden; Bag  - PS 1)

My point of fashion (FRUITS magazine, anyone?) was my high contrast neon pink and neon orange color collar combination. Say that five times fast.

(Laduree macaron display; Liz in Nastygal blouse; Julia in surprisingly chic Forever 21 faux-leather inset sweater, top and shoes; Liz modeling her gorgeous black lace Louboutin's)

The rest of the weekend was filled with delicious food (mocha-rubbed duck, Laduree macarons, & scrumptious Doughnut Plant baked goods), epic Karaoke, some light shopping, a brief photo shoot (see above) and a lot of obnoxiously loud laughter. I miss those girls already!
