Mirror Mirror On The Wall

People always say that when you meet "the one", you just know, that sparks will fly from an undeniable, instantaneous connection! No, no, no, not that sort of "one", as most people know, and others would do well to remember, the internet is no place for emotions. The sparks to which we are referring are those formed from a meeting of fashion minds.

A California girl and an English girl were invited to the same graduation party in splendid suburbia; the dress code, "whatever you want" - apparently, to both, this translates as riotous colour, prints galore, voluminous skirts and obnoxious sunglasses, all topped off with dainty gold bracelets.

It's almost enough to make you believe in soul-mates. Almost.

Cool Rider

High-waisted jeans - Topshop, Spiked ballet flats - Boutique in Seoul, Jean jacket - DIY, Leopard print collar shirt - A.land

Have you ever wanted a boy so cool that he'd burn you through and through? Sounds like a case of heartburn and a bag of Cool Ranch doritos, but it was what I was singing to myself after I realized my outfit had a Grease pink ladies vibe to it. I mean my hair alone was screaming "You're the One That I Want." My jean jacket was semi-successful DIY project that I did last year. I simply diluted some bleach with water, put it in a bucket, and placed half of my truly ancient Old Navy jean jacket in it. Unfortunately I let it sit for too long and some of the fibers began to disintegrate. But I think I actually like it better this way and I'll be calling it "grunge" instead of "mishap."

The Silver Surfer

At only the merest hint of sun, most Brits get rather heated; sadly, it is not at all uncommon to see a bare chested man marauding around his local supermarket, lobster-red hand grasping for bags of charcoal and packets of suspect looking burgers. Whilst this appalling display invariably makes us throw up in our mouths, we can empathise with the sentiment behind it. Helios makes so few appearances on this fair isle, that on the rare occasions he does visit we want to make the most of it and loll around in the garden until positively crispy. But but those spoil-sports skin specialists have ruined all of our fun, what with their talk of sun damage, wrinkles and cancer and so we have had to find another way to quench our thirst for 1950's silver face tanners and these marvelous metallics just about do it.

Around The World in 80 Days (or 3 outfits)

Don't get us wrong, we love overpriced souvenirs as much as anyone, it's just that working them into your wardrobe when back home can be tricky. Nobody wants to look as though their gap year threw up all over them and those tie-on Thai trousers don't seem to quite evoke the same feelings of carefree abandon, as they thirstily absorb rainwater (and goodness knows what else) becoming sodden while the wearer trudges through the grimy streets of London.

Having graced almost every continent with her presence and bearing more than a passing resemblance to that oft neglected Disney princess, Esmeralda, this traveler extraordinaire is the perfect person to give us a lesson in how to incorporate holiday purchases into our everyday wardrobes; by teaming the contents of her luggage allowance with high street must haves and vintage pieces, Lia always looks unique and stylish in her eclectic, envy inducing ensembles!
This beautiful kaftan was picked up in India and the box clutch is by Timmy Woods

Bracelets and Rings of gold - Oh my!

Left hand:
The chunky gold bracelet belonged to Lia's Grandmom, the vintage gold ring was from her PopPop and the delicate knuckle ring is an Etsy find.

Right Hand:
The Aztec midi-ring is courtesy of Urban Outfitters and the rose gold bracelets are by Shashi and are available on Shopbop.

We went to every H&M in Stockholm and Lia bought this beautiful dress.

Back in the USA with these Forever 21 earrings.

Elipants are from India, the velvet bralette is from GAP, the chucky gold necklace is from Accessorize and the dreamy green shoes are by Zara.

Silver sunflower bracelet also belonged to her Grandmom, the felt clutch bag found its way home from Mongolia and the blue ceramic ring is from Penn State.

PhiLIAs Fogg wishes he had her style.

Blurred Lines

Flatform shoes - Missguided, Gold chain necklace - Gogo Phillip, Gold chain ring - Nasty Gal Vintage, Mesh crop top - Nasty Gal Vintage, Riri Woo Lipstick - MAC, High-waisted shorts - Topshop, Chunky heel lace-ups - Topshop

Blurred lines or clean lines, Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I.? I think it's the latter that is this summer's hit. When watching the music video for "Blurred Lines" my eyes were jumping around like mad. Do I look at the incredibly dapper gentlemen or the impressively-styled women? Oh my gosh, Pharrell. Oh my gosh, that girl is wearing a golden scrunchie. Well that's what repeat viewing are for. I loved the female models' hospital nurse meets plastic packaging meets Brooklyn gold chains look. Indeed, white without abandon is the biggest color this season. But white doesn't always have to be innocent (even if you are holding a baby lamb) as this video shows. Here are some pieces that you should definitely cop and channel your inner modern-day Robert Palmer girl on your next night out.

Printspiration

(From top to bottom: Joan Smalls in J.Crew, Unknown street-style amazingness, Sara Mary in April Vogue Japan, Solange Knowles in concert, Kiko Mizuhara in April Frau Magazine)

One undeniable trend for S/S is mixing prints. Are you scared? So were we! Well, I think I still am a little scared but I'm trying to think of it as a thrill-seeking experiment. Sky-high roller coasters, horror movies, bungee jumping and mixing prints all induce the same amount of an adrenaline rush in my body. Ironically, what soothes me the most is when I see print mixing with bright, rich colors. If you have more trepidation, pair one bright print with a monochrome print. And finally, the best way to print mixing prowess is to wear accessories or outerwear that you feel confident in -- they could be more subdued like a oversized blazer or more bold like a statement necklace, but whatever gives you that internal "Daaaamn, I look cute, boo" sensation when you put it on.
Miriam has already taken the print plunge and is dots-deep in an Urban Outfitter's Ghanaian-print bomber jacket, F21 polka-dot top, and geometric print clutch. I hope to follow her in footsteps and also the print-mixing queen, Solange Knowles. Whenever I feel the need for printspiration, I just shuffle on over to tumblr and type her name in the tags search. Go forth and printsper! Alright, I'm done with these puns... for now.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Cancel your plans and clear your calendars, Friday is almost upon us and this week it promises to be especially exciting! As with it comes the roof-top launch party for East Wing Collective's Pop-up shop.

Follow the yellow brick road down to unit 17 of BOXPARK in Shoreditch, East London, and there, for 6 weeks, you will find an array of beautiful things from East Wing Collective founders Johnette TaylorFanny ShorterEmma Hamshare and a select group of fellow designer-makers, all of whom share a passion for craftsmanship, quality and the desire to cure the public of retail mediocrity. We've been fans of Emma Hamshire's label Aelska ever since we saw her beautiful collar necklaces and fans of her general loveliness ever since we met her, so we were more than a little delighted to hear of this shopping extravaganza! We have set our hearts on the following pieces and will wrestle for them, you have been warned.

Function meets fashion in this buttery-soft leather 'Nette bag.

We are more than a little obsessed with the African fabric used on this beautiful chair by Yinksdesigns.

This Fanny Shorter cushion makes us think of The Tudors, which is always a good thing.
Yellow Aelska Ribbon Necklace, you are my sunshine.

Consolidate your change, sell a kidney, do whatever it takes because as Oscar Wilde said, "Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination".

Baby, Come Back in Brixton

Hello, dear readers! You may have noticed the dearth in posts over the last month. We apologize for not preemptively informing all of y'all, but M & S spent the last month in the land of the free getting married (to one another and also Siobhan's now-husband -- it's a long story). We have many adventures to share with you and we can't wait to showcase them shortly. In the meantime, we wanted to share an awesome style video we spotted on singer Pharrell's YouTube channel, iamother. It features street style from one of our favorite London hubs: Brixton. The aside from the amazing clothes, the interviews are incredibly interesting as well. We hope you enjoy and stay tuned.
