It could be our entrenchment in 90s nostalgia or it could be our aching arches, but it appears that Birkenstock-inspired sandals are gaining in popularity at a break-ankle pace. The influence of Normcore may also be at play here with its the mule sandal silhouette more associated with dads pushing strollers in the park, not a fashionista on the beat. Celine, Givenchy, Isabel Marant showcased their own versions of the Birkenstock shape on their respective collections, but the high street trickle-down is now full effect (as well as the original purveyor standing firmly on the ground).
